Without first addressing the elimination of internal toxins, all other rejuvenation or anti-aging strategies may be ineffective. This imbalance involves the optimum functioning of the liver, gut, kidneys, and skin. Due to our increasingly polluted environment, our body's toxic load may exceed our elimination capacity. Experts estimate that 100% of our population is toxic with persistent organic pollutants (chemical herbicides, pesticides, food additives or preservatives, etc.) and 25% are toxic with heavy metals (mercury, lead, arsenic, etc.). Increasing numbers of health care professionals are realizing the profound effect that toxicities have on the development and propagation of chronic disease. Two-thirds of mercury toxicity comes from dental mercury (silver) fillings, an ubiquitous source of toxicity in the general population. Mercury toxicity has been related to many diseases from Alzheimer's to autism.
Other important toxicities come from opportunistic infectious organisms, energy (electromagnetic waves, microwaves, etc.) and spiritual imbalances (bitterness, guilt, pride, etc.). Toxicity might be present for years before disease actually occurs. Treatments and strategies that address these toxicities including I.V. and oral protocols, detoxification strategies, and counseling are services that we provide at Rochester Center for Healthy Living.

One way our bodies are associated with the outside world is through our GI tract. Each person ingests about 25 tons of food in a lifetime. Nutritional needs are unique to each person and are determined by a variety of factors including metabolism and genetics. Normal abundant bacterial flora, proper digestion and absorption of nutrients, and normal gut immunological function are all necessary for optimal health. Many times abnormalities exist without signs or symptoms of gastrointestinal distress.
Specific treatments are available for dysbiosis (abnormal bacterial balance in the gut), leaky gut syndrome, food allergies, and absorptive disorders that may impact all other organs of the body. We follow the proven and effective "Four R" program for treatment and restoration: Remove, Replace, Reinoculate, and Repair.

Hormonal dysfunction is common especially as people age. Menopause and PMS in females and andropause, which leads to erectile dysfunction in males, are major health issues. Often a hormonal problem may also involve toxicities and/or digestive and absorptive imbalances and may not simply be a hormone deficiency.
The major hormones: cortisol, adrenaline, thyroid hormone, and insulin have a major impact on the minor hormones: estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Hormone deficiencies serve as predictors of future health problems. For example, low testosterone in men is related to increased incidences of cardiovascular disease and bone loss. Adrenal fatigue, a very common and often unrecognized problem in many postmenopausal women, is associated with many chronic diseases including chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, ischemic heart disease, hypoglycemia, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Therapies, including bioidentical hormone replacement, are available in our clinic, but we also look at the major hormones and how they need to be addressed. Often once adrenal fatigue is corrected, minor hormones become balanced.

What we eat or drink largely determines our state of health. The standard American diet (SAD diet) is a major contributor to chronic disease. Research estimates that 70-90% of chronic disease risk is attributable to lifestyle, and the SAD diet is an integral part of our American lifestyle.
We offer Firstline Therapy, a therapeutic lifestyle program with the goal of optimum health and ideal body composition through a combination of balanced eating, regular exercise, reduction of stress, and the use of the correct supplements. The end result is a program that not only helps control aging, but also helps to prevent chronic disease and prolong vitality. The twelve-week program is physician directed and prescribed with frequent follow-up for progress tracking, education, and motivation.
Nutritional plans to aid the treatment of diseases, such as food allergies, gluten sensitivity, inflammatory diseases, and diabetes are available. Dietary supplements are often necessary in the treatment and prevention of disease, as well as, for optimum functioning. We offer exclusive pharmaceutical grade supplements that meet GMP standards. We also offer a line of Quantum supplements that are designed from living sources to resonate and support the positive energy forces within the body.

Free radicals are the result of our bodies using oxygen for the process of metabolism. Free radicals are unavoidable naturally occurring and damaging byproducts, but with antioxidants, they can be neutralized before they cause further damage to cellular architecture. Excessive free radicals lead to many chronic diseases and accelerate aging. Therapies (both I.V. and oral protocols) are available that increase the body's natural internal antioxidants. Antioxidants are also increased through supplements, diet, and exercise recommendations.

The body's immunological system surveys and destroys foreign invaders to maintain health, but allergies can also cause disease. Autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus may occur as a result of heavy metal toxicity, organic pollutants, or leaky gut syndrome, all of which can be addressed using our unique protocols.
Inflammation is the cause of many varied diseases, from coronary artery disease to neurodegenerative disease. More commonly we may think of arthritis, gout, or fibromyalgia as diseases resulting from inflammation.
Inflammation is necessary for healing. However, if it is out of control, inflammation can cause disease. We provide topical, supplemental, nutritional, and intravenous ways to decrease inflammation that often is more effective than pharmaceuticals and much safer and less expensive. A general program to decrease inflammation may decrease the risk of developing future chronic diseases.

With aging our bodies change. We lose muscle mass, gain fat, and our individual cells lose their cell wall fluidity and receptor identity. After age forty, we typically lose 10% of our muscle mass per decade thereafter. We also begin to lose our strength and musculoskeletal function. Nutritional, supplemental, and exercise strategies address specific aspects of aging.
Bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) to assess body composition of water, fat and fat free (muscle) mass is available through our clinic. BIA is much more useful in measuring body composition than simply measuring weight or body mass index (BMI). Specific stretching and exercise strategies are recommended to impede and correct musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Mild stress motivates, but excessive stress kills. In order to effectively deal with stress the root cause must be understood. Meditation, guided imagery, deep breathing, massage, and exercise are all effective ways to lessen the effects of excessive stress. A CD, Stress Relief Through Guided Imagery, by Martin L. Rossman, M.D. has helped many learn simple relaxation techniques and is available to our patients.
Root causes of stress can be found as we explore spiritual toxicities that may be deep seated and beyond the conscious mind. The spiritual toxicities include: bitterness, guilt, pride, greed, rebellion, lust, and self-rejection. Specific approaches to eliminate these toxicities involve understanding and applying seven non-optional life principles. Often when spiritual toxicities are eliminated, both spiritual and physical health is the result.

Prevention is an important aspect of promoting a longer "health span." Our approach is more predictive than descriptive. An x-ray, scan, blood test, or physical exam may be normal and show no sign of disease. This good news is always reassuring, but this information only provides a description of one's health status at a particular point in time. By paying attention to the nine imbalances we can be more predictive of future disease by identifying imbalances before disease occurs and before signs and symptoms begin to indicate a malfunction.
A specific example of predictive preventative medicine is now used in our clinic. Genetic testing is available to detect individual SNP's (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) that are individual variations in genetic makeup, which serve to predict the condition of enzyme systems and metabolic pathways that may already be malfunctioning. Due to individual variations, more or less of a vitamin or nutrient may be necessary to improve the function. Also due to these variations a person may be more sensitive to certain toxins, drugs, or nutrients, making them more likely to be toxic at normal exposures, dosages, or amounts of intake. A customized plan can be prescribed for patients with vital information about toxin avoidance, diet and supplements, and cautions regarding potential side effects from pharmaceuticals.
